If You Let It In, You Let It Win
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23
A while ago, in a quiet moment with the Lord, I heard His still, gentle voice speak these simple yet powerful words:
“If you let it in, you let it win.”
Those words have stayed with me ever since.
Life has a way of presenting opportunities for our hearts to become wounded. Betrayal. Rejection. Loss. Unanswered prayers. Unfair treatment. Broken relationships. Delayed promises.
The enemy doesn’t always arrive with an obvious attack. More often, he waits patiently for a small opening, a broken link, an unhealed wound, an unresolved disappointment. His goal is not merely to hurt us but to gain access to our hearts.
Bitterness rarely knocks loudly.
Resentment often enters quietly.
Anger disguises itself as justified emotion.
Disappointment whispers that God has forgotten you.
Before long, these visitors begin to occupy space they were never meant to have.
The Bible warns us in Hebrews 12:15:
“See to it… that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.”
Notice that bitterness begins as a root. Roots grow underground before they become visible. Left unattended, they influence our thoughts, shape our words, poison our relationships, and eventually rob us of peace.
The enemy knows that if he can occupy your heart, he can distract your purpose.
But here is the glorious truth:
You are not powerless.
You do not have to become a prisoner of what happened to you.
Through the power of Jesus Christ, every doorway that was opened can be closed. Every wound can be healed. Every chain can be broken.
Forgiveness is not saying what happened was acceptable.
Forgiveness is refusing to let the offence continue ruling your life.
When we surrender our pain to Christ, we exchange bitterness for freedom, resentment for peace, anger for compassion, and despair for hope.
The Apostle Paul reminds us:
“Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” Ephesians 4:26–27
A foothold begins with a small gap.
One unresolved offence.
One hidden grudge.
One conversation we refuse to have.
One wound we refuse to surrender.
The invitation from God is to close every gap before the enemy builds a stronghold.
Perhaps today you recognise something has found its way into your heart.
Don’t condemn yourself.
Simply bring it into the light.
Invite the Holy Spirit to search your heart. Ask Him to reveal every place where bitterness, anger, resentment, fear, jealousy, offence, or disappointment has settled. Then intentionally release it into His hands.
Jesus is greater than every wound.
His peace is stronger than every storm.
His grace is sufficient for every battle.
And His victory becomes our victory.
The world may say, “Time heals.”
But God’s Word says, truth heals, grace restores, and love overcomes.
So today, make a decision:
Guard your heart.
Protect your peace.
Close every doorway.
Refuse every foothold.
Because if you let it in, you let it win.
But if you surrender it to Jesus…
In the end, you win.
Prayer
Father, search my heart today. Reveal every place where hurt, bitterness, disappointment, or resentment has tried to settle within me. I choose to forgive those who have hurt me, just as You have forgiven me. Close every door the enemy has tried to use, and fill every empty place with Your peace, Your joy, and Your love. Strengthen me through Your Holy Spirit to walk in freedom and victory. I declare that my heart belongs to You alone. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Remember: Victory doesn’t begin when the battle ends. It begins the moment you refuse to give the enemy a place in your heart.
With love
Terri💎
